I scratch built the feet using .040 thick aluminum. Using the patterns below, I cut out the shape of the flatened foot. Then I bent the shapes to the appropriate positions. I used 90 degree aluminum extrusion, 1" x 1", to join the aluminum "under skin" together in the corners. These were riveted on, leaving rivets showing. I then covered the feet in 3 more layers of SINTRA. The plastic (SINTRA), was the same stuff I used on the body. The first plastic layer was to get the surface hight above the rivets. The second layer evened the surface, creating a base for the decoative layer. The third layer was decorative. I used contact cement to bond the first layer of plastic to the aluminum under skin. I then used the all purpose plumbers glue to bond the decorative layer to the foot. I then used BONDO to make all the corners nice and sharp. The half round areas on the foot "half moons" are resin cast by Dave Lockwood. I then had to custom make the "channel" that the ankle goes into to attach to the feet. At the bottom of this page are some pics of the inner fram work that actually takes the weight of my droid. The feet are cosmetic and take on no weight. |
